INEOS has reduced the price of its off-road specialist, the Grenadier, and the closely related Quartermaster pickup, to €59,995 + VAT. The move is meant to keep the Grenadier competitive with the recently introduced Toyota Land Cruiser Commercial.
The rugged 4x4 models are available in five-seat passenger versions, but these commercial models are at the core of the business for Orangeworks Automotive, the Maynooth-based company that imports and distributes the Grenadier and Quartermaster in Ireland.
Undercuts Land Rover
Significantly, the move on prices means that the Grenadier is now quite a lot cheaper than the entry-level Land Rover Defender Hard-Top. INEOS earlier this year tried to play up the natural rivalry between the two cars, with adverts showing a pristine, clean Defender and a mud-covered Grenadier with the tagline ‘let’s take this outside.’
3.5-tonne towing weight
Both the Grenadier and the Quartermaster are very capable vehicles, with high ground clearance, permanent four-wheel drive with three locking differentials, and a choice of BMW-sourced 3.0-litre straight-six petrol or diesel engines, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The Grenadier can carry a maximum cargo weight of up to 871kg, as well as up to 150kg of dynamic weight on its roof. The Quartermaster pickup can haul up to 835kg, and both can tow up to 3,500kg, with a maximum train weight of seven tonnes.
According to Orangeworks: “This update ensures that our most capable commercial vehicles remain highly competitive for Irish businesses, while continuing to deliver the durability, off-road capability, and practicality that define the Grenadier range.”
